A woman from Georgia who allegedly met a man through a dating app stole his vehicle amid their initial date leading cops on a bizarre high-speed chase. 37-year-old Jenifer Lee Gray came to be
“the date from hell,”
Coweta County Sheriff’s Sgt. Toby Nix informed FOX 5 Atlanta.
Gray also known as Piper met Wesley Burson on Plenty of Fish, which is on online dating app, according to WSB-TV. Burson set up an Uber to pick the woman up from an Atlanta hotel on Thursday evening to bring her to his home for their very first date.
Sgt. Toby Nix told Fox 5,
“As they’re getting ready to go out for the evening, he’s getting ready, he hears his truck crank up in the driveway, and she’s left in it.”
The woman’s date went to use the restroom when he then heard his truck start. When he exited the bathroom, he watched his vehicle zoom across the front yard. He then called officials to report that his truck was stolen. While an officer was headed to the location where the theft occurred, a sheriff’s office Field Operations member witnessed the truck. He caught up with the truck in an effort to conduct a traffic stop on Temple ave; however, the woman refused to pull over and sped up at 100 mph.
“On the interstate, speeds were over 100 mph, she was driving recklessly, trying to swerve and hit our patrol car while he was attempting to do a PIT maneuver,”
The sheriff’s office’s H.E.A.T. Unit was able to successfully stop the truck with
while she was driving by the
“53 I-85 N mile marker.”
Officials were then able to catch the woman and remove her from the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and transported to the hospital to be evaluated before being taken to Coweta County Jail. She was charged with
“theft by taking and fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer.”
