Fresno PD
A woman from California, Yarelly Solorio-Rivera, reportedly fatally shot her 18-year-old sister and her 3-week-old niece because of
“jealousy and sibling rivalry,”
according to Fox News.
The 22-year-old was arrested in connection to the shooting of the 18-year-old girl, Yanelly Solorio-Rivera, and her infant baby, Celine. According to the news outlet, the incident occurred on Sept. 24. Yarelly’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Martin Arroyo-Morales was also arrested as the pair have been charged with two counts of pre-meditated murder.
Paco Balderrama, the Fresno Police Chief said,
“We have the murder weapon, a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, and we have a motive — jealousy and sibling rivalry. We saw no remorse whatever, no guilt.”
On the day of the shooting, officials were called to the home close to 7:20 a.m. after receiving reports of several gunshots heard in the bedroom of a home, according to Fox San Francisco.
The Police Chief added,
“the scene was traumatic for all officers, detectives, EMS personnel, and crime scene technicians who responded to the scene.”
Officials arrived to the scene and discovered the 18-year-old mother and her child dead. Early in the investigation, police had suspicions of Yarelly carrying out the shooting; however, at that time, they didn’t have enough evidence to prove it or arrest her.
