Cook County Sheriff's Office

A woman from Illinois has been apprehended and charged after reportedly attempting to suffocate a young boy last month after he began to cry, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said, reports FOX. 58-year-old Julie Espinosa was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one felony count of aggravated battery of a child.

Authorities went to a Burbank, Illinois elementary school after school staffers reported a potential encounter with the 6-year-old child. Officials say they discovered that Espinosa, the boy’s caregiver, tried to suffocate him with a pillow because he cried. When the pillow was pulled away from his face, the 6-year-old started vomiting.

The young boy and his siblings were placed in a relative’s care by authorities from the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.
