Woman Arrested After Being Accused Of Attempting To Castrate Her 5-Year-Old Stepson

33-year-old Bracey Renee Byrd of North Carolina has been charged with attempted murder after reportedly attempting to castrate her adopted stepson, who is merely 5 years old, reports the New York Post. The woman is also facing a variety of other charges for allegedly abusing the young boy.
An investigation began in July after the Wilson County Department of Social Services sent a referral to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, according to WNCT-TV. Officials say the 5-year-old was taken to the hospital with brutal burns as well as other injuries. ABC 11 reports that he had bruises on his legs, arm, face, genital area, and head.
Reports note that Bryd is also facing
“counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, malicious castration, first-degree kidnapping, as well as three additional charges of felony child abuse with physical injury.”
ABC reports that the woman remains in jail on a $2 million bond.
