Woman Arrested After Authorities Find Bug Infestation, Feces, Trash, And 300 Loose Rodents With A Child In The Home, Reports Say
A Florida woman was arrested after police say they found a child and multiple animals living amongst bug infestation, feces, trash, and 300 loose rodents, Fox News reports.
Police were called to Shannon Marie Morgan’s home on account of animal cruelty. When officers arrived at the residence they instantly were hit with the smell of ammonia and discovered
“several cages and glass aquariums housing snakes and rodents along with rats and cats that were loose, running around the home.”
Police say they also found dirty dishes, trash, rotten food, fecal matter, and urine around the house, which was attracting roaches and other bugs. Morgan, 38, reportedly had a ferret and a dog in cages that were too small in one room and a small child in another bedroom, surrounded by
“bug infested trash on the floor and mattress.”
Authorities said they counted 50 rats inside cages with about 300 rats roaming freely.
Seven cats, one dog, and one ferret were reportedly removed from the residence and the house was secured until the removal of the remaining animals. Morgan is charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty and one count of child neglect.
“Abuse of any kind should not be tolerated,”
Sheriff Mike Prendergast said about the incident.
“The conditions of this residence and the animals, in this case, were so bad, Sheriff’s Office personnel were cautioned about making entry. Neither children nor animals should ever endure this type of environment. It is crucial that our citizens report any possible signs of child or animal neglect. Our Animal Control Officers, deputies, and crime scene specialists once again have done a phenomenal job”
