Virginia Teenager Arrested And Charged For Killing His Adoptive Parents

A male teenager is in police custody after reportedly killing his adoptive parents in Chesapeake, Virginia.

On Tuesday morning, at around 6:30 A.M., the bodies of 61-year-old Donna Daugherty and 60-year-old John Daugherty were discovered in their home. Police say their adoptive son used a knife and/or hammer to murder them. The 15-year-old is now facing facing two counts of aggravated murder, 13 News Now.

A neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the ABC News affiliate in an interview that the victims had also adopted two girls, that were in the home during the attack. She woke up to seeing them outside their home with police.

“They were not okay yesterday morning. I just hugged them and told them if they needed anything, I would be right here,” the neighbor recalls. “How could this happen? How could any of this happen anywhere, much less, right here? Everyone was normal. We’re all normal. Stuff like this is just crazy.”

The Daugherty’s next door neighbor, Eddie Gray, says that he had been at work when the double homicide occurred. He hadn’t heard the tragic news until he came home later that day. Like many within their mobile home neighborhood, he was shocked to learn about the suspect.

“I’ve only seen the kid one or two times,” Gray explained. “But he wasn’t even the type- he didn’t seem like the type of kid that would do anything like that. At all. I mean it’s just nuts.”

The teen’s motives have yet to be revealed, but authorities say that the investigation is ongoing.
