South Carolina Man Confesses To Killing Five Men After Being On Meth For Four Days

On Monday morning, October 10th, James Douglas Drayton was arrested after stealing a car and using it to flee after committing an armed robbery at a convenience store in Hephzibah, Georgia. After police had taken him in to be interrogated, the 24-year-old confessed to more crimes: shooting his five roommates in Inman, South Carolina.
Sunday night, at around 7:45 P.M., police arrived to Drayton’s home, where they found four people fatally shot. According to NBC News, a fifth wounded person was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his wounds shortly after. Investigators believe the shooting occurred in the morning, and stated that each of the bodies were found in separate rooms.
Spartanburg County investigators made their way to Georgia in order to question Drayton, who confessed to have been hearing voices.
“I don’t know what that means to him,” Sheriff Chuck Wright said. “I know that he had been using meth, and he had been up for, like, four days. Someone that hadn’t slept in four days- they’re probably not thinking.”
Though it wasn’t stated when Drayton would be extradited to South Carolina, he has been charged with five counts of murder.
