 NYPD Discontinues Use of Robot Dog After People Expressed Outrage

Many are familiar with the robot dog’s which was reported to serve as surveillance to monitor

Yet, the machine has been receiving a lot of criticism. People were outraged after a video went viral of the dog

“patrolling a Manhattan housing project, ”

says The Post

The NYPD has decided to cancel it’s

“contract with Boston Dynamics to lease the four-legged robo-cop, ”

per The Post. A spokesperson told The Post,

“The contract has been terminated and the dog will be returned.” 

Mayor Bill de Blasio has been reported to ask the NYPD to rethink using the robot which eventually led to the Polie department revealing that they held a $94k contact with the robot dogs inventor. The contract was cut short and reportedly ended April 22. 

A Manhattan representative told the NY times the robot dog promoted,

“militarization of the police.”

he continued,

“At a time where we should be having more beat cops on the street, building relationships with residents, they’re actually headed in another direction in trying to replace them with robots.”
