Mother Reveals That Parents In Denmark Allow Their Infants To Sleep Alone In Their Stroller On The Street  

A video of a mother explaining the Demark culture has been making its rounds on TikTok. In the viral video, the mother explains that parents in Denmark allow their children to sleep alone in their strollers on the streets. Annie Samples, a mother of four explained,

“The Danish practice of having your baby sleep outside in their stroller is not only the cultural norm, but it’s even recommended by our midwives and baby nurses.” 

Samples is American; however, her family migrated to Copenhagen, Denmark. She went further into detail about the Denmark norm explaining that fresh air is believed to be conducive to a baby’s health and allows them to have a more peaceful sleep. She added that while in the stroller outside

“babies are dressed in lightweight wool and have a down duvet, which regulates the baby’s body temperature [and] keeps them warm without overheating.” 

The mother went on say,

“It’s common to leave your baby napping outside while you go shopping or sit in a café.” 

Although parents keep an eye on the stroller as well as place a baby monitor inside of it, Samples added that

“Babies [in Denmark] don’t get kidnapped because no one wants the responsibility of someone else’s kid, especially when our healthcare system does everything it can to help anyone who wants a baby have one at little to no cost.” 

She noted that many people question why she allows her child to sleep outside while she’s at home, which she then answered,

“it’s for [my child] to get the benefits of fresh air. It’s [my child’s] most familiar sleeping surface at this point and I love that if my family and I ever want to go somewhere while [my child] is napping, we’re never stuck at home.”
