A teacher from North Carolina has reportedly resigned after a student, Brady, sent a photo to his mother of his mouth taped because he was being too talkative during class, reports the New York Post. The sixth grader’s mother seemed to be outraged and is now looking for answers.

The mother, Catherine Webster, said Brady sent her a picture of himself with tape over his mouth. The incident occurred at Smithfield Middle School on Feb. 13, reports WRAL. The mother then contacted the school about the encounter. During the school’s investigation, the 11-year-old student told the school’s principal, LaShunda Faison, that the ordeal has been occurring for several months and that other students experienced a similar punishment.

The boy told the news outlet that the unidentified teacher would also tape some pupils’ wrists together.

According to Johnston County Public Schools, the teacher resigned on Feb. 17. The district made it known that they take these types of reports seriously.

“We can confirm that whenever such allegations arise, our administration responds swiftly, by investigating the allegations, and sometimes, by removing staff from classrooms pending completion of a thorough investigation,”

said the district.

“School administrators are always able and willing to speak with any and all parents who may have concerns regarding any issue that occurs,”

the district went on to say.

The incident was investigated by the sheriff’s office as parents began to come forward about the abuse their children experienced; however, prosecutors determined that there wasn’t enough evidence to cultivate a criminal case.
