Matthew Jordan Lindner, 38, of Comfort, Texas was arrested Friday after threatening to kill a Boston doctor who provides care to gender-nonconforming children, authorities said, per The New York Times.
According to federal prosecutors, In August the Boston Children’s Hospital was receiving a flood of threats and online harassment after misinformation was spread that they provide hysterectomies and gender affirmation surgery to patients younger than 18. The hospital does not perform those procedures on minors, prosecutors said.
On Aug. 31, Lindner called the Boston-based National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center and left a threatening voicemail for one of the center’s doctors, prosecutors told the outlet. Lindner said in the message,
“you’re all gonna burn,”
according to prosecutors, he then added that
“a group of people on their way to handle”
the doctor.
“You signed your own warrant,”
Lindner allegedly said.
“Castrating our children. You’ve woken up enough people. And upset enough of us. And you signed your own ticket.”
Prosecutors said Lindner also went as far as to call two phone numbers linked to a Rhode Island university where the doctor is a faculty member and called a medical practice where the doctor had previously worked. Lindner was arrested on a federal charge and is being held without bail. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000, reports note.
