Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office

A man in Washington D.C was convicted after breaking into a Takoma Park, Maryland home and sexually abusing a girl he discovered in her bed. According to Fox, the girl was merely 9 years old.

30-year-old Joshua Grice was found guilty of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary-home invasion for the incident that occurred on Nov. 29, 2021. Reports added that the man is facing a minimum of 25 years behind bars and the possibility of a life sentence. His hearing is set for September.

The young girl was asleep at home when she discovered a man sporting all black, a black mask, and a black hat sitting on her. Reports say he sexually abused the girl before fleeing into the living room and exiting the home through a window that was open. The girl then informed her sister, who slept in an adjoining bed. The girl’s sister was also underaged. Once the suspect saw the victim’s sister, he fled the scene. Police then arrived at the home and searched for the suspect in the vicinity; however, couldn’t find him.

Back in May 2022,

“the Montgomery County Crime Lab matched a DNA sample from the victim’s underwear to Grice,”

according to Fox.

John McCarthy, the state’s attorney said,

“This violent offender preyed on a young, innocent child… Due to the efforts of the Montgomery County Crime Lab, Montgomery County Police, and our trial team, justice is being served. We also want to recognize the Tree House Child Advocacy Center for its impactful work in cases involving vulnerable victims.”
