Man Arrested and Charged After Murdering Girlfriend Because She Got An Abortion He Disapproved Of, Officials Say

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office

A man from Texas reportedly murdered his girlfriend on Wednesday after he learned that she went to a state where abortions are legal to get an abortion, officials say, according to the New York Post. 22-year-old Harold Thompson has been charged with murder in connection to the death of Gabriella Gonzalez, 26, Dallas authorities say. Officials added that the woman was murdered in a strip mall parking lot.

The woman returned the night prior from a trip to Colorado, where abortions are legal in all phases of pregnancy, says an arrest warrant. Reports added that abortions are illegal in Texas after six weeks of pregnancy except for emergency circumstances. According to the affidavit,

“It is believed that the suspect was the father of the child… The suspect did not want (Gonzalez) to get an abortion.”

The parking lot’s surveillance footage reveals the couple engaging in a verbal disagreement around 7:30 p.m. before the 22-year-old grabbed Gonzalez and began to choke her. The woman managed to

“shrug him off,”

and they then began to walk together. Shortly after, Thompson reportedly pulled out a firearm and struck the woman in her head. He continued firing the gun at her several times and then fled. Gonzalez was declared deceased at the scene.

During the time of the shooting, the man was previously charged with assaulting a

“female family member”

after choking the woman back in March. Although the affidavit failed to name the victim, reports say the victim was most likely Gonzalez, according to The Post.

The victim informed officials that he

“beat her up multiple times throughout the entirety of their relationship,”

documents say. Thompson allegedly notified officials that the woman was pregnant with his baby at the time. According to an affidavit, the victim revealed that

“she is scared of the suspect because he had made threats to harm her family and her children.”
