A man, Ishmil Swafford, of Las Vegas has reportedly been charged after shooting a woman, who officials believe was his girlfriend. The shooting occurred in front of her son, 6, who raced to a neighbor informing them that his mother was murdered, according to the New York Post.
The 43-year-old was arrested on Friday
“on a single count of open murder with a deadly weapon,”
reports The Post. Officials responded to a call about the incident close to 1:20 a.m. When authorities arrived the scene they discovered Yetundi Maples, 46, unresponsive.
Officials later learned Maple’s son went to a home close by and informed Alejandra Verduzco,
“My mom just got killed.”
Verduzco explained to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the young boy was shaking and crying. The woman went on to say,
“I was like, ‘What happened?’ And he was like, ‘She just got shot in the head.’”
Once officials got to the scene, the suspect fled. Swafford was later arrested and officials haven’t confirmed his relationship with Maples; however, a woman who said she is Maples’ daughter mentioned in a GoFundMe campaign that the suspect was her Maples’ boyfriend.
#Clique, let’s keep Maples’ family in our thoughts and prayers.
