Las Vegas Man Fatally Stabs Wife After Spending The Night At Female Friend’s House

A Las Vegas man is now in police custody after killing his wife then failing to kill himself afterwards, Law and Crime reports.

According to police documents, 33-year-old Shiva Gummi told dispatchers that he had stabbed himself repeatedly, but wouldn’t die. He had explained that he had decided to take his own life, after fatally stabbing his wife. “I want to die, but I’m not dying,” Gummi explained to them. When he was asked where his wife was, he replied, “Next to me- she’s dead.”

When officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrived to the home Saturday morning, they found the body of Gwendoline Amsrala on a mattress. The 28-year-old multiple stab wounds to her arms, abdomen, and throat. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told police that Gummi “was upset with Gwendoline after she spent the night at a friend’s house who was intoxicated after a night of drinking,” the arrest report states. When she came home, Gummi confronted her, and their heated argument quickly turned violent. He’s now facing one count of murder with a deadly weapon.

Amsrala had just recently graduated from the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Las Vegas in November of 2022, where she stayed on as a resident. Mark Chang, Amsrala’s chief resident at Kerk Kerkorian School, has created a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses.

“She was taken tragically and suddenly from us, before she was destined to fulfill a rich and meaningful career dedicated to serving her future patients,” the fundraiser reads. “For those that knew her intimately, we will always remember her wonderful sense of humor, strength of spirit, leadership, and charming smile.”
