Intoxicated Man Arrested After Stealing Pittsburgh Ambulance While Medics Were Treating Patient

On December 9th, medics responded to a call at around 4:30 A.M. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As they were treating an injured person, a man jumped into the front seat of the ambulance and took off, leaving them behind, according to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4.

The suspect drove the medical vehicle out of Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania State Police troopers began chasing him in the area of Interstate 376 in Robinson Township. Eventually, spike strips deflated the ambulance’s tires, but the driver continued, even with sparks flying from underneath. The pursuit came to an end when the man lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail.

Officials then arrested Vincent Scrbacic of Irondale, Ohio. Police say that the 32-year-old resisted being taken into custody, but was uninjured, despite being heavily intoxicated. Scrbacic has been charged with driving under the influence, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, and resisting arrest. He will remain in the Allegheny County Jail while awaiting arraignment.
