Homeless Woman In Custody After Allegedly Pickpocketing Man Who Died, Reports Say

A New York homeless woman, Geniece Draper, has been arrested after being a suspect in a pickpocketed robbery of a dead man who was sadly, crushed by a construction truck, according to the New York Post. The 40-year-old woman was charged with grand theft.

Officials noted that the act was captured on video last week. During the time of her arrest, police allegedly discovered a crack pipe in her coat. The victim was identified as 62-year-old Jerome Smith. The 62-year-old was crossing the street when he was struck by a tractor-trailer. Smith didn’t have a wallet when officials arrived to the scene, so they were forced to run dental records and finger prints in an effort to identify him.

Draper was identified and arrested after police viewed the video of her pickpocketing Smith. She reportedly took his wallet as he remained unresponsive underneath the truck. After the robbery, the 40-year-old woman fled the scene. According to sources, the woman has an extensive background of encounters with law enforcement, with more than 50 arrests for drugs, prostitution and theft.

Two days prior to the incident, she was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
