Halloween Decoration That Depicts Man Hanging From A Tree Sparks Outrage From The Community

A Halloween decoration that depicts a man hanging from a tree in Harnett County, North Carolina has sparked outrage. According to WRAL-TV, the horrifying scene, which has now been shared hundreds of times on Facebook, shows what appears to be a black full-dressed figure with its hands tied behind its back hanging from a tree outside of the home.
The disturbing decoration spurred outrage within the community. DeAngelo McDougald who is a resident of the community said at an initial glance he thought the decoration was real.
“I just rode past it and it looked so real that I stopped,”
McDougald told the outlet.
“If you’re passing by and you just glancing over, you’d be like ‘someone’s hanging from a tree.’”
McDougald shared the display on Facebook which has made its rounds in the media. One concerned parent wrote,
“My daughter is biracial – she’s Black, White, and Indian, and I don’t want her growing up seeing these things.”
Major Aaron Meredith with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said he met with homeowners to address the communities concerns. The family explained that they didn’t intend to offend anyone and that the Halloween display was meant to look like a farmer.
“It’s a Hispanic family and they said it was simply a Halloween decoration they put up. Once it was explained to them how it was perceived, they realized that and they were very apologetic and they took it down immediately,”
Meredith told the outlet.
