JoJo and Tanice Simmons are definitely couple goals. Aside from appearing on WE TV’s “Growing Up Hip-Hop,” the lovebirds are booked and busy with both joint and individual projects that they’re working on — all while expecting their second child!
OnSite! caught up with JoJo & Tanice to discuss how they balance their entrepreneurial ventures while maintaining family time and couples’ quality time.
As for JoJo, he is working with Cree Campbell and Eric “Lil Eazy E” Wright Jr. to put together a star-studded artist showcase in search of fresh talent for his management company, Who’s House Entertainment. JoJo explained that his overall goal is to develop upcoming artists and give them a spotlight.
“My overall vision for the company was never just like hip hop. I want to do all genres, whether it’s rock, pop, hip hop, pop, country, whatever you name it,” he tells OnSite! “I want to find good music that I like to listen to and that the world would like to listen to it.”
As for Tanice, she is busy with her brand, True Tea, which focuses on health and wellness. During her time in quarantine, she has used the time to take care of her body as she is set to welcome their baby boy in a few months. As you can see from her Instagram, she’s been hitting the gym with her husband to stay in good health.
“I’ve been trying to stay really active. It was hard early pregnancy because I was like constantly sick, but the moment I felt better, I’m like, ‘Listen, second baby — if I can help my body to stay just a little bit intact, let me just be as active as possible,” Tanice said.
Despite being busy, the couple make mandatory time for one another as a couple and as a family of three (and a half). The couple revealed they just returned from their “babymoon” vacation in Puerto Rico, which served as good quality time ahead of their second child. Additionally, their family spends a bunch of time together in their YouTube series, “Meet The Simmons,” a kid-oriented show following their everyday activities with their daughter, Mia.
For those experiencing parenthood, JoJo & Tanice advise new or expecting parents to work together in order to maintain a healthy family and relationship.
“Man, stay strong and don’t let it break you up,” JoJo said. “‘Cause the first couple months the baby is hard to deal with, man. I tell you they’re hard, but it gets better.”
“[S]upport one another, knowing each other needs a break. It’s 50/50, you know, I think that’s most important,” Tanice added. “I think a lot of moms struggle with saying that they’re tired or they need help. I think it’s just unfortunate that they can’t be honest because it’s hard. I’ll be the first to say, ‘I need a damn break.’”
