Sadly, a groom was gunned down right outside of his wedding ceremony in Mexico, People reports. Authorities think the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
Marco Antonio Rosales Contreras, 32, was shot moments after leaving his wedding ceremony at Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria church in Caborca, Mexico. Witnesses said that a single gunman approached Contreras and fired multiple shots with his wife standing nearby. He died during transit to the hospital.
People reported that the wife went unharmed but was seen being escorted away from the church, crying, with blood spattered on her wedding dress. According to the outlet, the city of Caborca is notorious for an infamous drug cartel in Northwest Mexico. Investigators believe that the gunman targeted the wrong man.
“Investigations indicate that the attack against Marco Antonio was directed towards another individual who was also getting married at the same time in a different nearby city,”
the local prosecutor’s office said in a statement. So far, no suspects have been named in the attack. The investigation is ongoing.
