Florida Man Arrested After Pouring Bleach Into Coworker’s Soda

A man from Volusia County was arrested after being caught on video pouring bleach into his coworker’s drink after the two had argued, as reported by KIRO 7.
The victim had gotten into an argument with Jerome Ellis during their shift together at a Dollar General store in Deland, Florida. Later on, he went to the bathroom during his lunch break, leaving his soda unattended. When he returned and took a sip from his drink, he tasted and smelled what seemed like some sort of cleaning product. He then notified both his manager and the police.
When authorities arrived at the scene, Ellis told the police that he had accidentally spilled bleach near the soda, and then attempted to wipe it up. The store’s security footage didn’t corroborate with his story.
In the video, Ellis is seen attempting to unplug the security camera system. After his efforts ultimately had failed, he proceeded with his plans anyways. The footage then captured the 48-year-old pouring bleach into the victim’s drink, wiping off the top of the can, and returning it to its original place.
Jerome Ellis was arrested and charged with poisoning food or water, as well as tampering with evidence. He is currently being held at the Volusia County Jail on a $20,000 bond. He will no longer be employed at any Dollar General locations.
