The FDA directed Johnson & Johnson to throw out 60 million doses of their COVID vaccine after a number of health issues were found at the lab in Baltimore where they were made.
This news came Friday, 2 months after the Emergent BioSolutions shut down for mixing up vaccine ingredients. The plant was under investigation since, and a report from the U.S. House Oversight Committee found “mold, poor disinfection of plant equipment and inadequate training of employees” as well as workers not showering or changing their clothes.
Sources told The New York Times that the reason the FDA wants the shots discarded is because of potential contamination that may have happened at the still-shuttered laboratory.
60 million doses will put a huge wrench in the country’s vaccine plan. So far, only 11 million Americans have gotten the Johnson & Johnson shot.
Clique, what do you think about this massive waste of doses?
