A doctor from Indiana, Caitlin Bernard, who gave a 10-year-old rape victim an abortion, has been fined $3,000 after being accused of violating state laws for speaking out about the topic, which built up global media attraction, RadarOnline.com reports. The doctor talked about her remarks made to a reporter from the Indianapolis Star last summer, saying,

“I did not release any protected health information. I complied with all patient confidentiality and HIPAA laws to the best of my knowledge.”

Bernard, who is an OBGYN and associate professor at the University School of Medicine, revealed in court that she demonstrated the story as a hypothetical scenario because it’s extremely

“important for people to understand the real-world impacts of the laws of this country.”

She was punished by Indiana’s medical licensing board on Thursday after conducting the procedure on the unidentified 10-year-old, who was raped in Ohio. According to RadarOnline.com, the procedure took place in June 2022.
