Steven Aucoin—a former police officer in Kaplan, Louisiana—was fired after posting a racist comment in a Facebook chat with Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. Aucoin said it was “unfortunate,” more black people didn’t die from the coronavirus.
Kaplan Police Chief Joshua Hardy said Aucoin’s comments were unacceptable. However, Louisiana firefighter, Joshua Brothers, claimed Aucoin’s remarks were probably taken out of context. Brothers says the new Facebook update doesn’t put the comments in consecutive order.
Possible technical errors aside, Chief Hardy said the department thoroughly investigated the comment thread and found Aucoin made several other inappropriate comments.
