Sadly, five people were shot and killed and 18 people were injured in what appears to be a targeted attack on the LGBTQIA+ community, NY Post reported. According to police, they responded to a call of a shooting at a well-known LGBTQ nightclub called Club Q in Colorado Springs at around 11:57 p.m. on Saturday.

At a news conference outside of the club, Lt. Pamela Castro, a public information officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department, announced that an investigation is underway and that the number of victims is subject to change. She added that the victims were being treated at multiple area hospitals.

Police believe one of the individuals who was injured is a suspect in the shooting and have placed them in custody as they undergo treatment.

Club Q has put out a statement on Facebook about the tragic incident.

“Club Q is devastated by the senseless attack on our community… Our (prayers) and thoughts are with all the victims and their families and friends. We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack.”
