Sadly, a 9-month-old child, Darius King Grigsby, in California was fatally shot as his mother was pushing him in the street while he sat in a stroller, reports Fox News. Merced, California officials confirmed that the child was shot as his mother pushed him down the street when a moving car opened fire, reports WHNS-TV.

Authorities responded to the Nov. 9 shooting at 12:36 p.m, where they located Grigsby and his mother in a Mcdonald’s. They found the child with a gunshot wound. Officials say the child was declared dead at the scene. Reports added that three shots were fired from the vehicle.

The Merced Police Department wrote in a statement on Facebook,

“It was determined that the shooting took place in the 1200 block of Q Street. Grigsby was being pushed in a stroller by his mother, who was walking down the street with her boyfriend. A vehicle drove by and one of the occupants opened fire, striking Grigsby.”

Joseph Pere, Merced Police Lt., told Fresno Bee,

“If there’s anybody out there that saw something that the police didn’t speak to, if they can reach out to the police.”

Officials believe the child wasn’t the intentional target, reports KFSN.

The investigation is ongoing.

#Clique, let’s keep Grigsby’s mother in our thoughts and prayers!
