5-Week-Old Died In Car Crash As Mother Fled Cops After Stealing Baby Products From Walmart

Unfortunately, a 5-week-old baby and male passenger has died in a car crash when the mother of the infant crashed the car while fleeing from the cops after stealing baby merchandise from a Walmart in Louisiana, according to the New York Post

Candace Gill and Edward Williams were approached by security at the Walmart on Monday before fleeing the scene, say officials. Once authorities arrived at the scene in response to the act, the pair had already left in the car with the child.

Shortly after, officials located their vehicle which eventually led to a high-speed chase. According to court documents, the

“officer pursued, and activated his lights and sirens, but the vehicle failed to stop.”

The car then crashed amid the chase leaving the infant and Williams dead. Williams was declared dead at the scene while the unidentified infant was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead. The Monroe Police Department said the child wasn’t safely strapped in amid the collision.

Two other passengers had no life-threatening injuries. Officials told KNOE, that the mother left the scene while officers were helping the passengers. She was later arrested that night after officials located her at an apartment.

Gill has been charged with

“two counts of manslaughter, aggravated obstruction of a highway, four counts of negligent injury, theft, and several traffic violations.”
