Lenin Gutierrez received over $67,000 in donations after refusing to serve Amber Lynn Gilles for not wearing a mask during a global pandemic in a San Diego Starbucks where Gutierrez works. California law requires anyone who is out in public to wear face coverings.

When denied service Giles wrote on Facebook saying, “Meet lenen [sic] from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask … Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.” The post coincidentally backfired, according to the New York Post.

Hours later, a GoFund Me was created. Gutierrez is an aspiring dancer and was working as an instructor before the pandemic happened.

He has publicly thanked those that donated.

Update 7/30/2020: He has received about $90k in donations according to The Kansas City Star.
