A protest and vigil honoring the late Elijah McClain did not end as peacefully as it started after police pepper-sprayed the crowd and demanded they clear the area.
Three people were arrested and several were sprayed outside of Colorado’s Aurora Municipal Center Saturday after cops came and broke up the tranquil demonstration—which featured a violinist.
Video of the incident shows police arriving in riot gear and pushing protesters back with batons before using pepper spray. Protesters chanted “hands up, don’t shoot” with their hands in the air as law enforcement disrupted the peaceful scene, per CBS.
Aurora Police have yet to publicly explain why cops were called to disperse the “unruly” crowd.
