After thousands protested and signed petitions demanding the arrest of the officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s death, cop Brett Hankison was fired from Kentucky’s Louisville Metro Police Department. But now, he’s appealing his termination.
The LMPD terminated Hankison last week, saying he would be criminally charged in her death. In the days since his termination, Hankison got a lawyer and filed an appeal against his being fired from the force, CBS reports.
In his appeal, Hankison’s lawyers claim his arrest isn’t fair because it was done before the official investigation by the FBI, and the Kentucky Attorney General wasn’t finished.
“Brett Hankison should not be punished unless the facts show he committed wrongdoing, and the facts are not yet in,” his lawyers wrote, adding that the case is “hyped by the public and not justified.”
