Laroy Battle,19, is facing two counts of first-degree murder and possession of a controlled substance, after allegedly shooting and killing Jasean Francis, 17, and Charles Riley, 16, on June 20 near a convenience store because they asked him how tall he was.

The teens were described as good kids from a good home and didn’t know Battle before the alleged shooting. The victims reportedly said, “how tall he was and hoped to be that tall someday,” according to WLS-TV.

Francis was shot in the back, chest and left hand while Riley was shot in the back and left leg. Battle was arrested after members of the community identified him when police released a video of the suspect.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown.
