Christin Evans, a Black college freshman at Texas’ Stephen F. Austin State University, and her parents are looking for the university to take action against students who falsely accused her of attacking them with scissors. Her lawyer says this could have been another “Breonna Taylor” incident.
Evans, 17, was asleep in her dorm at 3 AM, when SFA University Police burst into her room with flashlights and guns drawn, the Washington Post reports.
According to officers, they were responding to a call made by the Resident Assistant who had about 10 “racially diverse” students—including Evans’ three white roommates—falsely claimed she was holding scissors and threatening them.
Campus police told Evans’ parents they reviewed the surveillance footage of the dorm and learned the allegations against their daughter were false. They apologized. However, her parents are still upset the students responsible have not had any consequences for what they believe was a racially driven incident.
“I want justice,” her mother said. “I want them to have consequences. They played with her life.”
